On November 29, 2017 a seminar "Discussion of intermediate results of projects implementation within the framework of the 6th Operating Period of the GEF SGP. Registration of grant funds of the GEF SGP in the Republic of Belarus. Reporting and documentation of GEF SGP projects” was held in Minsk.
The purpose of the seminar was to strengthen the capacity of public associations, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders for the implementation of GEF SGP projects.
Yuri Soloviev, the National Coordinator of the GEF SGP in Belarus, made a welcoming speech and presentation of the GEF SGP activities to the participants of the seminar. He described in detail the goals and objectives of the Small Grants Programme, and provided a brief overview of the current implementation of the program's projects.
Yauheniy Lobanov, the director of the Center for Environmental Solutions, made a presentation on the Strategy for the SGP Sixth Operational Period. Yauheniy and his team won the GEF SGP grant for the development of this Strategy, the text of which you can read here.
Then the participants of the seminar got acquainted with the presentation "Procedures for Registration of Foreign Gratuitous Aid in the Republic of Belarus" prepared by Inga Gorbuntsevich, the Head of the Humanitarian Activity Department of the Department for Humanitarian Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
After the speeches of keynote speakers, a round table was held with questions and answers. In particular, next topics were discussed: the timing of project registration, the prospects for simplifying the registration procedures for the GEF SGP grants and reporting on their implementation to the Department of Humanitarian Affairs, the strengthening of the capacity of grant recipients during preparation and implementation of projects under the GEF SGP.
The seminar was of strategic importance for the GEF SGP in Belarus in the field of raising public awareness of the activities of the SGP in the Sixth Operational Period and strengthening the capacity of non-profit organizations for the effective preparation and implementation of projects financed by the GEF Small Grants Program.
